Madam, Last week The Ross Gazette printed an article about a break-in at The Ross Weather Station. As reported, the criminals had tried to steal the Sunshine Recorder but just failed. It took hours to repair the damage to it and the fence.

Imagine our sadness and anger this week when an identical break-in took place (before the report in the Ross Gazette) and this time the delicate and irreplaceable thermometer that had been mentioned was stamped on and shattered. Yet more hours of repairs. Both events have been reported to the police but to no avail.

Ross has weather records from 1859 which represents 150 years of volunteers trudging out in all weathers. What sort of person tramples on our efforts and insults the people of Ross who supported the Mayor's Project in 1985 to renew the site?

Someone knows who did it. Perhaps just the person themselves. Perhaps friends. Perhaps family. An apology, even anonymous, would help my fellow observers carry on.
