Madam, I noticed a letter in the Ross Gazette on July 9th criticising the permission given by the council for closing Broad Street and allowing the attendance of a French Market.

Personally I was delighted to have the opportunity to purchase French food and drink, and would welcome the return of these traders at any time. I do support English traders but it is interesting to be able to sample the commodities. Surely it is up to the initiative of English market traders to take their products to France in the same way. One of the benefits of the European Market is the possibility of inter country trading. In fact closing the road in the Market centre made little impact on the road traffic conditions for a few hours.

It was interesting to note that on the same page, some traders stated that their own sales had increased due to increased attendance for the French, English and Antique Market.

I hope we shall have similar opportunities in the future to welcome the markets from overseas.
