A fundraising page set up to show support for the family of a young boy who died after being hit by a mini bus has nearly reached double the original target.

Seven-year-old Samuel Barker died at the scene of the accident on the A466 Hereford Road at Monmouth on January 13th.

Samuel lived in Monmouth with his two brothers, mum, Cat and dad, Jim, and attended Osbaston Church in Wales School.

Family friends, Chris and Jo Walker, have set up a Just Giving page to raise money which will be used in memory of Samuel. They are planning to install a memorial at Osbaston School such as a Bible Garden with a new bench and climbing frame. Any money raised above and above that will be used to support charities close to the family’s heart.

The family paid tribute to Samuel, they said: “Samuel had a glowing personality and a slightly zany sense of humour! He was always on the move, a happy active child who loved toy cars, climbing trees, the great outdoors and especially skiing and ski lifts!

"As a family, we are upheld and sustained by our faith in Jesus. While we wish we might have had longer with Samuel, we know that he is now with the Lord Jesus Christ in eternal peace.”
