THE future for Ross Library and the preservation of the Dennis Potter Room seems much more assured after a meeting to transform the Ross Library Development Group into a Community Interest Group. This change in name reflects a new emphasis on fundraising to enhance the Dennis Potter Room. The move was agreed last Wednesday when 40 people met in Ross Library to enjoy the newly renovated space and discuss plans for the future.
The Town Mayor, Councillor David Ravenscroft, members of reading groups and book clubs, also members of local societies such as Arts, Music, Photography and Science took a lively part in debate.
Librarian, Jan Nesaratnam, demonstrated how much more flexible the use of space can be with mobile shelving units, allowing the group to meet in the main part of the Library while they await the new Dennis Potter room. Work is well underway with the panelling and fittings that will mean Ross regains its community meeting room and the Library recovers space for exhibitions, children's play and study facilities. Also a new street door is being fitted so that access to the room can be gained out of hours when the Library is closed. Read the full story in this week's Gazette.
