RESIDENTS at West Bank Residential Home in Ross-on-Wye enjoyed a truly unforgettable afternoon when Luke from Wye Valley Falconry paid a special visit with an impressive line-up of feathered guests.

The afternoon brought a sense of wonder to the home as Luke introduced several species of owls, Chester the Harris Hawk, and even a magnificent eagle.

Residents and staff were captivated by the display, which offered a rare opportunity to see these remarkable birds up close and learn more about their lives and habits.

Luke shared fascinating insights into each of his feathered companions, including how they are trained, their natural hunting skills, and the care involved in looking after them.

His engaging stories and in-depth knowledge helped residents gain a deeper appreciation for the world of falconry and the intelligence of these extraordinary birds.

Many residents were thrilled to have the chance to handle the birds themselves. With Luke’s guidance, they put on the falconer’s glove and proudly held a hawk or owl while their friends and fellow residents looked on with delight. T

he atmosphere was filled with laughter, smiles, and plenty of photos to remember the special experience.

Home Manager Mrs Judy said: “Our residents were absolutely captivated by the falconry visit. It was wonderful to see the joy and curiosity it brought to everyone. Experiences like this really make our days extra special here at West Bank.”

The falconry session is part of West Bank’s ongoing programme of meaningful activities that aim to bring the outside world in, stimulate conversation, and create lasting memories for residents.

From music and art to animal visits, these experiences are designed to boost wellbeing and encourage social connection.

A warm thank you was extended to Luke and Wye Valley Falconry for sharing such a magical and educational experience with the West Bank family.
