Madam, Following the discovery of two burst pipes at Weston-under-Penyard Church of England Primary School on Bank Holiday Monday, what started off as a disaster for our little school, has become a very heart-warming example of mutual co-operation and community support.

The school was badly affected and unable to open but the support and guidance we have received from Colin Birks and the Property Services Team at Herefordshire County Council has been exemplary. From the plumber, Mr Tandy, the builders S M Stanley, who dropped everything to come to our aid and have worked so hard to repair leaks, clear the school and start the drying out process, to the school staff who have all rolled up their sleeves to help out. Everyone has worked so hard to ensure we get the school back to normal as soon as possible.

However, there is still an awful lot to be repaired and the school will not be fully functional for some time yet. The Leadership Trust has come to the rescue in a very generous way, and has offered us a wing of their building in Weston, so the school was able to open on January 10th. We have had so many offers of help, too numerous to mention, but we are so very grateful for each and every one of them.

If any politician needs a good example of the "Big Society", let them look no further than Weston-under-Penyard. It is alive and well as I suspect it always has been.

Helen Barker, Chairman of the Governors,

Weston Under Penyard CE Primary School
