This year, thousands of people across the county will be celebrating the annual bonfire night and fireworks display at a variety of venues.

In Ross-on-Wye, the Lions Club’s Bonfire and Fireworks Night, held at the Chase Hotel on November 3rd, promises to be a spectacular night, as hundreds of people are expected to attend.

Hot food and beverages will be available throughout the evening, accompanied by a bonfire to warm those cold fingertips, topped off with the all-important fireworks display. The event has been running for over 30 years now, with the numbers of people attending rising with each annual celebration.

However, with so many people attending fireworks displays across the country, what advice do the fire service have?

Its not just humans that are at risk either. Action should be taken to ensure your pet’s comfort at home during Bonfire and Fireworks Night.

A spokesperson from Chaseview Vets had this advice for readers: “Try to keep your pet calm and remain at ease yourself so that this has the same effect on your pet. Also, maintain a calm environment. If your pet is known to negatively react to loud noises, try to distract them from the situation as much as possible.” For further pet safety advice, contact your local veterinary practice.
