A resident of Weston under Penyard has been thinking about ways to brighten up the entrance to the village and is particularly interested in developing wild flower verges on the A40 through the village.

Helen Morris posted her suggested on Facebook and told the Ross Gazette that she has been very pleased with the response and the support she had already had. However, she is concerned that this is something which should be done properly, after consulting people who know about the diversity and care of wild flowers. She told the Ross Gazette that she realised it was not just a question of pulling up grass and planting it with flowers, she said there are many factors to take into consideration, not least the safety of motorists who need visibility.

She is hopeful that the Parish Council will consider supporting the plan and local County Councillor, William Wilding, met with Helen to discuss her initial ideas. They are both meeting with Paul Rutter, a local expert on rewilding.

Helen realises that it may be next year before work can begin but she is hopeful that with an argument in favour of improving the habitat environment this will get the go ahead.

Cllr Wilding said: “I am a passionate supporter of rewilding, as befits my name, but we have to take care we are not just making something prettier.

“There are implications for the eco system in the verge already established."See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
