ROSS-on-Wye’s newest choir is also the only daytime choir in a busy town filled with singing.
Wye Not Sing? launched in May at the Larruperz Centre and is growing every week. Conducted by Emma Rowland-Elsen, who also leads the popular Border Belles, the choir is a gentle and friendly way into singing.
On Thursday afternoons, the halls of the Larruperz Centre are filled with singing and laughter - and a lot of tea drinking.
There’s no experience needed at all and the choir is supportive of all access needs: some singers read music and some don’t; some singers need to sit in practice and on stage.
There is detailed support with learning songs and everything is followed up with singalong tracks, too.
Members are from all over the greater Ross area with many walking to practice; there’s also a large, free car park.
With the nights drawing in, the group is a great choice for singers who don’t like to drive in the dark.
The choir will be performing first at the Silver Gala concert at St Mary’s in November, along with the Border Belles and Harmony Singers from Dinedor, to mark Emma’s milestone 25th anniversary as a choral conductor.
Then the group will be putting on its first ever Christmas concert at the Larruperz Centre on Thursday, December 10 at noon. Tickets for the public will go on sale very soon at the Larruperz Centre.
So, why not sing with Wye Not Sing? The choir is always looking for new members - men included. The first session is free and then it costs £8 per week, pay as you go.
Thursdays from 1.30pm and3pm; no need to register - new members can just turn up and will be warmly welcomed.
