A group of young, local volunteers called the Wellbeing Ambassadors are set to launch three publications with the aim of improving mental health services for young people of Herefordshire. The launch will take place during Children’s Mental Health Week which runs from February 5th to February 11th.
Sophie Clarenne, 22, and Rose Brennan, 16, are both Wellbeing Ambassadors from Ross-on-Wye.
The group have created three posters and info graphs for professionals who; work with young people, work in mental health services and those who make decisions about them:
• ‘Ready, Set, Go!’ A Wellbeing Ambassadors guide to making a good start to therapy.
• ‘Where do young people go for information on mental health?’
• ‘Top 7 Barriers and Solutions’ for young people accessing mental health services.
The resources are the culmination of discussions by the Wellbeing Ambassadors and other young people during 2017, and will each be accompanied a supporting document with more details about how and why they were developed.
The Wellbeing Ambassadors are aware there is lots of great practice out there and hope that their resources will remind professionals of the basics of what’s important and help to create a better experience for young people who need to access a mental health service.
Sophie, a Wellbeing Ambassador from Ross-on-Wye, said: “We hope these resources will raise awareness of mental health and assist young people. We continue to do more work as the Wellbeing Ambassadors to improve services and raise awareness.”
The aim is that the three new resources will be distributed as widely as possible through existing contacts the Wellbeing Ambassadors have and through social media links. However, resources can be requested by contacting Sarah Crockett or Amy Lunt at The CLD Trust on 01432 269245 or email:
