It was good to read in the Ross Gazette that our MP for South Herefordshire is wholeheartedly behind our PM in standing by the people of Ukraine.

The PM has confirmed that the UK ‘will be as generous as we can be’ to those fleeing war. The good news is that we are no longer requiring refugees, travelling from a war zone with incomplete paper work, to return from Calais to Kyiv, under siege by the Russians, to complete their application process. ( Was there still a UK refugee application centre standing. With staff? ). Now after their journeys from hell they are simply being required to return to Paris or Brussels to complete their application there. Such generosity.

The UK is truly leading the world, as the PM and Home Secretary have both pointed out, in our response to the Russian invasion. Poland has taken more than 1 million refugees, tiny Moldavia has admitted the equivalent of one tenth of its population, France, Germany and other European countries have welcomed tens of thousands. And Britain’s leading role? I believe it stands (Tuesday) at 500 visas issued, from a figure of 50 at the weekend. So considerable improvement!

We are truly leading the world in terms of national embarrassment. I hang my head in shame. So should the MP for South Herefordshire and the government he supports.
