As we approach the end of another academic year at John Kyrle High School and Sixth Form Centre, it is hard not to reflect on just how quickly the months have passed. Schools have a rhythm all of their own, yet each year still seems to move quickly as it unfolds, filled with moments of achievement, challenge, growth and celebration.

This time of year is always particularly poignant. We say goodbye to our Year 11 and Year 13 students, not simply as a routine milestone, but as a significant moment in their lives. For them, this is not just the end of a school year. It marks the closing of one important chapter and the beginning of another.

Over recent weeks, these students have been immersed in their examinations. These are important moments. Examinations open doors and help shape the pathways that follow, whether that is into further education, apprenticeships or the world of work. Just as importantly, they represent something deeper. They mark the culmination of years of learning, the development of resilience and the confidence to step into the future.

At John Kyrle, we often talk about ensuring that young people leave us ready, respectful and resilient. It is at this point that those qualities truly come to life.

Our online presence offers a much fuller picture of the day to day experience of our students, celebrating achievements, sharing opportunities and reflecting the strong sense of community at the heart of the school. While this time of year involves farewells, it is also very much about looking ahead. We are excited to welcome our new Year 7 students during transition days. This is an important step in helping them feel part of the John Kyrle community from the very beginning.

There is also much to enjoy in the final weeks of term, including trips, rewards events and key milestones such as our Year 13 leavers’ celebration and the Year 11 prom. These are memorable occasions that recognise all that students have achieved during their time with us.Over the summer, work will take place across the site to ensure that the school continues to provide a safe and high quality environment for learning.

Some of this work is not especially visible but is vitally important. For example, we are investing £182,000 in roofing to ensure our buildings remain secure and weatherproof for years to come.Alongside this essential work, we are particularly excited about developments within our Sixth Form.

Plans are progressing to enhance facilities and create a space that reflects the ambitions and maturity of our post sixteen students. This will support both their academic study and their wider development as they prepare for life beyond school.

Finally, I am incredibly proud of the charitable foundation that has recently been established to support the school and its wider community. We look forward to sharing more detail soon about its first major project, the redevelopment of our gym facilities.
