NINE riders competed in wet but improving conditions at Old Gore in the Ross-on-Wye Cycling Club's Roadbike 10 mile Time Trial, last Thursday.

The use of road bikes (no aero aids) and the conditions threw up an unusual result with a tie between Jonny Webb and Sam Walker for the win. Max rode well and was closer to the front than normal, with club chairman Mark closing up in his second event of the season. Race secretary Paul Stephens suffered, fresh from an Italian adventure, he must have thought it was colder than the reality and came back poached, thanks to the effectiveness of modern cycling clothing.

Paul Middleton produced a steady ride into 6th place followed by first timers Tim Newland and Sarah Cosker who both picked a fine evening to see what they thought of competitive cycling. They seemed pretty happy with their efforts in slippery and wet conditions. Will Bevan trying out his aero bike for a weekend event posted fastest time but it didn't count, being outside of the rules.

Their next event is the Marcle 3 lapper - at 1930, on July 6th. Signing on next to Much Marcle village hall from 1900 to 1915.
