Ross Ladies Tennis A team took to their home courts to play against Cutnell Green Ladies A team on Sunday, February 21st and achieved a winning draw.

The conditions proved to be tricky with high winds and low sun, but first pair Heather Peachey and Ellie Buescher stole the first set from Cutnall Green 6-4 despite trailing 2-4. Second pair Rosie Farr and Brenda Saunders stormed through their first set winning it comfortably 6-2. As the second sets commenced on both courts, Rosie and Brenda continued their fine form with some excellent net play and sneaky drop shots and won the second set, thus completing the match with a winning score of 6-2, 6-2.

Heather and Ellie lost concentration and lost their second set 6-3. With the match tied at one set all, Heather and Ellie made a positive start and were 3-1 up rather quickly, but the opposition upped their game and played some clever doubles and managed to win the deciding set 6-3 meaning that the team match was tied at one match apiece.

After a quick drink and short rest, both teams returned to play the final match. Heather and Ellie made a fine start against the second pair, both working well as a team and with lightning speed took the first set 6-0, really giving the opposition something to think about.

Heather and Ellie continued to weather the opposition throughout the second set, winning it 6-1. Rosie and Brenda lost their first set 6-2 against the well-practiced first pair and sadly lost the second set 6-2. With the match being tied at two matches each it was down to the mathematicians amongst the group to determine who would clinch the extra point awarded to the team with the most sets and/or games.

Ross Ladies had an extra set so a winning draw was a pleasing result and a delicious tea was enjoyed by all to end a fine day of tennis.
