The Ross and District Motor Sports Club held their Spring Auto Solo last weekend. The event had over 20 entrants on a very mild spring day making for an enjoyable event.

It was held at Mitcheldean Vantage Point business village on the old lorry park area which had a smooth surface ideal for this type of event, agreed upon by the competitors, and the few spectators who also attended were entertained to some very spectacular car handling.

The competitors were split into three groups consisting of red blue and green. Competing in one group meant resting in the second group and marshalling in the third group, giving rotation throughout the event. Four tests were organised which consisted of test one being reversed to form test two. A new test was set out for test three, which was then also reversed to form test four. This made some very challenging and spectacular sport on the day. Simon Harris, Clerk of the Course was thanked for his knowledge and excellent course plan and thanks go to all marshals/timekeepers for officiating on the day.

The event was run in two classes, National B and Clubman’s class. The National B event was won by Liam Rollings in his Austin Mini, the Class D winner was Alexander Smith in a Mazda MX5. The Clubman’s winner was Ollie Jenkins in a Mazda MX5, Class D was David Cross in a Toyota MR2. The Best Ross entrant was Adrian Gwynne in a (mostly sideways) MX5.

The next Ross Auto Solo event at Mitcheldean will be on September 18th. Contact the club for further details on this event and applications. The next Ross event will be the Auto Test at the cattle market on April 2nd at 12.30.
