For those members of the Club looking for competitive winter golf, the Annual Barnfield Trophy, represented by five qualifying stableford events which take place between November and March culminating in a Final in 2013, always attracts good support.

The top six scores in each of the two Handicap Divisions earn their right to compete in the final, so achieving an early qualification becomes a good challenge.

Although 104 members took part, and the conditions were challenging, it was not entirely a surprise that Simon Davies, who generally wins an Honours' Board trophy each season, should top the Division 1 handicap category.

His 41 points score, also earning him a one shot handicap reduction to 13, means that he joins fellow qualifiers Dave Hart with 40 points and Ross B Team Captain Colin Bennion and Steve Wallbank with 38 points each, and Danny Gear and Paul Cresswell who both scored 37 points.

There were three other 37 pointers namely Michael Lawrence, Gareth Webb and Peter Chapman, who just miss out on this occasion. Handicap Division 2 produced the top performer of the day, Colin Dixon, whose impressive 42 points total won him the lion's share of the sweep money and a 1 shot handicap cut to 14.

He was followed by qualifiers Neil Morris with 40 points, John Allen and Robin Taylor with 39 points each and Graham Jell and Andrew Baldwin with 38 points each.

Stephen Gregory also carded 38 points but just missed out on count-back although the second of the season's Barnfield Trophy event is only a short time away on Saturday, December 1st providing another opportunity for Stephen and countless others.
