Nine Tetrathletes of the South Hereford and Ross Harriers Pony Club have recently completed the Annual Area 9 Postal Shoot, which entails competing against a number of other clubs from far and wide.

The Tetrathlon is a multi-sport which requires the competitor to shoot, run, swim and ride either a show jump or cross country course. During the winter months members compete in Triathlon (excluding the riding) and also have the opportunity to hone their shooting skills in the Annual Postal Shoot.

This year, more SH&RH members than ever participated in the event, which requires two targets a month for a period of four months to be shot under strict competition conditions. The quality of shooting of the participants from all clubs was extremely impressive and the competition was very stiff.

In the Under 10 age category, four members competed for the very first time, Amelia Jones, Gus MacFarlane, Max Bower and John Howard. With Amelia and Gus both in fourth place in the girls and boys events respectively, Max was 6th and John in 9th place.

In the age 10 – 11 category, they had a further four competitors, Amelie and Sam Carver, Jess Gwilliam and Abi Agami. Brother and Sister – Sam and Amelie were both placed 6th, with Jess in 8th place. Abi, not only won the event for the girls group, but also had the highest shoot of the overall event, finishing the competition on a fabulous score of 3920 out of 4000 and achieving a 1,000 score in the final month.

Finally, Evie Lawson, who recently has only just moved into the Under 14 category, and is now shooting one handed, achieved a fantastic shoot, earning herself 11th place in the biggest class of the competition.

SH&RH members are incredibly lucky to have two exceptional Shooting Coaches Mike Phillips & Chris Norton of the Ross Target Club, who regularly give up their time each month to train children from the age of 8. In addition to this, Rachel Wreyford and Bernie Moss of Hereford Pentathlon offer members superb shooting, swimming and running coaching – which is definitely paying off!
