Ross-on-Wye Bowling Club held their Opening of the Green on Saturday, April 9th and at this event, the President, Mr John Perks, handed over a cheque to representatives of St Michael’s Hospice which was his charity for 2015.
Before the President of Ross-on-Wye Bowling Club, Mr John Perks, formally opened the Green for the start of the outdoor season, he presented the cheque for £1000, the proceeds from the President’s Charity for 2015, to the Mayor of Ross, Cllr Colin Gray and Mayoress, Mrs Anne Gray, who were receiving the cheque on behalf of St Michael’s Hospice.
The Mayoress thanked everyone for their invaluable support and explained how grateful St Michael’s was for the generous donation and told the many members, who were there for the opening, how much St Michael’s Hospice was reliant on generous public donations.
After the formal opening of the Green, when the President bowled the first wood of the season, many members took the opportunity of going onto the Green to practice ready for the start of the season, which has a full programme of fixtures and offers the members many opportunities to participate in this enjoyable sport.
This year’s Captains are: Men’s Captain, Mr Roger Gwynne, Ladies’ Captain, Mrs Marcia Gwynne. Their Vice Captains are: Mr Paul Rainthorpe and Mrs Mary Gardner; Junior Vice Captains: Mr Tom Buttery and Miss Kate Williams.
