The 10th Short Mat Bowls competition held in memory of the late Gavin Wright took place on Sunday. Gavin, a keen Larruperz bowls player, donated the trophy and requested that any monies raised should be for St Michael’s Hospice.
He would, no doubt, have been very pleased with the outcome. After a very strongly fought final the winners were a Larruperz team, beating a talented team from Westbury, who were playing for the first time on Herefordshire mats.
These competitions have now raised over £7,000 for the Hospice - this money includes entry fees, donated raffle prizes and an ‘all day’ cafe.
So – for the moment, the trophy will sit behind the bar at The Larruperz but the wining team hopes that Westbury will return next year and try to go one better.
They are very grateful to everyone who gave up their time to help, including the cafe ladies and the umpire.
