BOWLS brothers Tom and Dan Holmes were certainly on a roll at the All England finals, as they secured the National Family pairs title.

The Ross-on-Wye Bowling Club duo made it through to the last 32 representing Herefordshire, where they beat the Gloucestershire qualifiers 18-15.

Next up were Sam and Adam Shuttleworth from Warwickshire, with Tom and Dan winning in style 21-10 to go through to the last eight stage at Leamington Spa.

Things went right down to the wire in the quarter-final as the Ross pair held out to beat Dan and Andy Watkins from Buckinghamshire 18-17 to reach the last four.

This time the opposition came from Norfolk duo Tom and James Sogolo, and Tom and Dan again triumphed 18-14 to make the final.

Charlie and Debbie Souter were the Surrey family duo standing in their way of title glory, and in a nail-biting contest it was the Ross paring who prevailed 14-13 to lift the trophy.

The duo were also members of the Ross-on-Wye BC’s men’s team who retained the Hereford Times Cup last month beating Ledbury on all three Rinks at St Martin’s Bowling Club.

Ross had earlier beaten St Martins 72-40 in the quarter-final before downing Eastnor 66-56 in the semis.

Then the final proved one-way traffic as Ross cruised to a 90-29 triumph at St Martins.

The team was Tom Holmes, Dan Holmes, Mike Holmes, Ian Roe, Jeremy Watkins, Paul Rainthorpe, Phil Middleton, Dave Watkins, Mike Stevens, Barry Payne, Ivan Beesley, Keith Caldicutt.

Also part of the squad were Shaun Jones, Adge Ruck and Tony Vitale.
