After a long close season ended on Saturday Ross opened their league account against local rivals Bream. The sun shone and both teams did not disappoint as they served up a game of great skill, endeavour and tenacity, however it was Bream who just did enough to come away with the points.

From the off both sides were physical, looking to gain the ascendency. Ross were the first to gain territory establishing themselves in the Bream twenty two after some strong running from Gavin Oates and Dencer Rollings. The Bream defence was sound and after a turnover in midfield they were able to relieve the pressure. The next ten minutes belonged to Bream as they converted two penalties before scoring the first try, wide out on the left. This gave them a 11-0 lead after twenty minutes.

Ross then turned the game on its head by dominating the next quarter. First Craig Powell converted a penalty then flanker Casey Morgan scored two great individual tries under the posts and Ross went 17-11 ahead as they neared the half time break. On the halftime whistle however Bream drove over from a lineout and Ross led 17-16 at half time

The scorching temperature began to take its toll in the second half. The visitors were able to impose their set piece game on procedings, this gave them territory and as the third quarter ended they added a try and a penalty to move 26 -17 ahead.

Ross threw everything they had in the last quarter but were not able to break down a stubborn Bream defence. A last fling by Matt Redman held up over the line after a quick tap penalty and the referee then brought procedings to a close.

This was a great game of rugby played by two teams that will feature strongly in the promotion stakes next spring. The Wye Light Commercials man of the match was Casey Morgan for his two tries that brought Ross back into the game.

Ross 1st take on Westbury away next Saturday a 3pm kick off, whilst Ross 2nds are at home to Bream 2nds, a 3pm kick off.
