Early in the season, a friendly fixture between Lydney Cricket Club and Ross Cricket Club was organised to mark milestones in their respective history: Lydney Cricket Club is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and Ross Cricket Club is celebrating its 175th anniversary.

On Saturday, September 8th, Lydney travelled to The Park for the match which took place in glorious sunshine.

Ross lost the toss and were put in to bat. Openers James Tiffen and Michael Jeffryes, in his first post-op match, made a seemingly hesitant start for the hosts. Tiffen departed early (8) bowled by Peter Glynn. But Michael Jeffryes (41) dug in with a very solid performance including 7 boundaries.

Dan Barnard (13), Jack Evans (12), Ben Robbins (11) and wicket-keeper Ed Cinderey were all caught well by the Lydney fielders. Dee Springer was unlucky to be run out by Jordan Stone (17). Then it was back to catching practice for Lydney as Gabriel Warwick (16), Richard Jeffryes and Jack Donovan (20) were all out, caught. Bruno Warwick (16*) brought up the tail for Ross as they posted 160 all out after 39.4 overs.

After a scrumptious tea, Lydney took to the field. Jordan Stone and Aubrey Stubbs opened for the visitors. Stone (9) was bowled out by Donovan and Stubbs (3) soon followed, despatched by Dan Barnard. Joe Franklin (14) followed suit, caught by Cinderey.

Lydney's wicket-keeper Charlie Bendall displayed calm in the face of the storm with a well executed (31*) as team mates came and went with a flurry of wickets at the tail.

All the Ross bowlers contributed with Jack Donovan and Gabriel Warwick picking up two wickets and James Tiffen (2-1-1-3) removing Lydney's number 7, 8 and 9. Lydney posted 86 for 10 off 25 overs.

Grateful thanks to Rob Brain for taking a turn at umpiring and to all the Lydney visitors who came to support the game.
