After a tough night of quizzing last Saturday the Goodrich CC Winter Sleighers were in action against Burghill & Tillington CC and Ludlow CC this weekend. However it proved to be a bad day at the Leominster Convention Centre as the rusty Sleighers were found wanting in first the bowling and then batting departments.
Goodrich Captain O'Brien won the toss against an under strength Burghill and the Sleighers seemingly continued where they left off a fortnight ago. With all 6 batsmen scoring freely, Goodrich strolled to 162-5 from their 12 overs with O'Brien and Evans retiring and Chris Tookey answering his critics, firstly by turning up and then by top scoring with 46 not out. The game continued going Goodrich's way when Jarrett bowled the Burghill skipper Walsh's second ball of the innings, but from that moment on the game was Burghill's. The Sleighers hit the self destruct button and with the help of 52 bowling extras, Burghill snuck home by three wickets.
Things then went from bad to worse for Goodrich when Ludlow won the toss and the Goodrich batting line up fell into tatters. In the face of some accurate Ludlow bowling, O'Brien, Evans and Jarrett were run out before Tookey was stumped. With 47 from Rutsch and 29 from Griffiths, the Sleighers scrambled to 112 (with 10 runs being deducted for hitting the roof). Goodrich knew that with a bowling performance like the last, the game would not be a long one. However with O'Brien (3-0-18-1) conceding just 4 runs from his first over, the villagers showed they were not going to roll over. In a much improved bowling display, the bowlers to a man showed great character to take the game to the penultimate ball when Ludlow passed the total with two wickets in hand.
