At a well attended recent Annual General Meeting, members were delighted to welcome Jill Davies to receive the Ross Bridge Club’s Charity donation of £500 in favour of Friends of Ross Hospital of which Jill is their valued Chairman. In thanking Club members for their generosity and reflecting upon previous AGM occasions when she had received donations for the ’Friends’, Jill explained how these latest monies will be well spent in their latest project to fund an auxiliary lift to be sited on the outside of the hospital building in Alton Street.
The formal part of the Club’s AGM started on a reflective note following the recent sad passing of Club Honorary Member Pam Jenkins who was much loved and will be greatly missed.
From the annual reports of the Club’s various officers it was no surprise for members to receive confirmation that Ross Bridge Club is thriving and in good heart with fully satisfactory attendances maintained at both Monday evening and Friday afternoon Duplicate Bridge sessions which take place at the Larruperz Centre.
For the next 12 months the Club will again benefit through the re-election of experienced Committee Members in Jo Baker as Club Chairman, Chris Chowney as Secretary, Roy Milnes as Tournament Director, Rosie Wilson as Membership Secretary and Keith Ray as Treasurer. While Linda Blunt continues on the Committee, Denise Robertson is standing down after playing a major role for several years, although Denise will still be at the helm in the running of the Friday afternoon sessions. Jo made a presentation to Denise in acknowledgement and also to Lindsay Ray.
Jo also made the presentations to those members whose performances had shone in the Club’s 2017/18 major competitions, which saw multiple awards for Albert and Carol Brown in winning the Summer Pairs and the Winter Teams with Jim Morison and Gethin Jenkins. Carol and Sue Shore took the top spot in the Ladies Pairs. Equally, Steve Lawrence and Anne Summers were kept busy, receiving awards for winning the Mixed Pairs and Winter Pairs competitions and Steve, combining with Chris Chowney as Men’s Pairs Champions.
