As many people were soaking up the sun and enjoying the superb weather at the weekend, Ross First XI made the journey up to Romsley and Hunnington CC for their latest Worcestershire County League match. Ross fielded a strong side and batted first.
Openers Jack Evans and James Tiffen made a positive start notching 69 before Tiffen (36) was bowled by Karunakaran Annamalai. Good running between the wickets saw Evans and Sebastian Warwick's partnership push the total to 135 until Warwick was caught by Steven Randall off Ahsan Khan's bowling for 47.
Bruno Warwick came in and scored 47 until caught by Randall off Charlie Durrell's bowling. Ten runs later, Jack Evans (73) fell to Ahsan Khan. Harry King was Khan's third victim, Ross 230 for 5.Charlie Hiram made a welcome return and scored 44*. Dan Barnard also returned and put on 43 before Khan struck again.
Ross posted their highest score of the season: 337 for 7 off 50 overs. After tea, Romsley started well but opening bowler Bruno Warwick claimed both openers. Romsley were 53 for 2. Next to fall was Andy Robinson (12) caught by Harry King off opening bowler, James Tiffen.
David Phillips and skipper Steven Randall found the boundary several times before Phillips (11) was stumped by wicket-keeper Ed Cinderey off Tiffen's bowling.
Steven Randall was caught by Seb Warwick (20) again off Tiffen and Romsley were 88 for 6 and in trouble.
No other Romsley batsman scored any further runs as Tiffen claimed another two wickets to notch up another fifer, returning (7-1-21-5) and Christiaan Ferreira bagging three (7-1-14-3).
A convincing win for a back-to-full-strength Ross First XI and maximum 24 points scored.
