Ross Cricket Club's First XI travelled to Cleobury Mortimer for their latest WORSCL match on Saturday June 9th. After a week of heavy, persistent rain, all credit to the Cleobury Mortimer grounds staff for ensuring that this match was played.
On winning the toss, Ross skipper Stuart Mair had no hesitation in asking Cleobury Mortimer to bat first on a damp, soft wicket. In the third over Ross claimed their first wicket with a sharp caught and bowled by Harry King to dismiss Shorter (0).
King didn't have to wait too long before he claimed his second wicket of the day, when he dismissed Cleobury's other opener Redfern (2).
Ross continued to take wickets at regular intervals whilst making it very difficult for Cleobury to score any runs. Only two Cleobury batsmen managed to get in to double figures; Shorter (10) and Green (16).
Pick of the Ross bowlers was Christiaan Ferreira (12.5-7-8-5). Cleobury Mortimer were all out for 58 in the 35th over.
In reply, Ross got off to the worst possible start when opener James Tiffen was trapped LBW by Manley off only the second ball of the innings. Seb Warwick joined Jack Evans at the crease. With strong running between the wickets and intelligent batting they quickly built up a partnership of 50. Evans was then bowled by Redfern for 16. It was left to Michael Jeffryes (1) to hit the winning run in the 12th, with Seb Warwick (32*).
Ross won by seven wickets.
