Ccrews from the juniors, mens and ladies squads of Ross Rowing Club took part in the Henley Sculls, held at Henley on Thames recently, and proved they were able to hold their own against the bigger clubs. The course runs approximately 3,000 metres upstream from the bottom of Greenlands to the Royal Regatta finish.
The first on the course, in the aptly named boat ’Women of Ross’, were the quad crew of Pam Ball, Sarah Sykes, Christine Crowhurst and Nicky Wild. Not only were they the fastest in the women’s masters E/F category (for crews with an average age of between 55 and 64) but the fastest women’s master quad of the day over all masters categories (aged 27 upwards) – a marvellous achievement.
Later in the day, Ella Bardsley-Taylor was victorious in the women’s junior single scull for 15 year olds, outstanding given that she was against a field of 18 other top single scullers from the most competitive, well-known and impressive clubs in the country.
