ASTON Ingham’s U15s won a cup final thriller on Friday night to retain the Leadon Vale Youth League Wellon Cup, beating Bream by three runs.

The game see-sawed back and forth and it was looking like Bream were on course, until a superb burst of four wickets from Charlie O’Neill changed the course.

Toby O’Neill and Max Evans also picked up 2 wickets apiece, and there was one for Corey Terry as Bream were dismissed for 107 with just one ball left. Terry had earlier played a captain’s innings, scoring 52 before retiring unbeaten, and Ethan Drew-White with 25 and O’Neill with 13 helped the defending champions to 109-4 off their 20 overs.

At the end of the Bream innings, Oscar Smith came on to bowl the 20th over, and kept his nerve brilliantly, the game ending when Ed Bell set up a run out for Terry.

A club spokesperson said: “This was a real team performance and the team should be very proud of themselves.

“Thanks very much to Paul O’Neill, Anthony James and Dave Lacey for looking after a fantastic group of young cricketers.”
