Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club held their annual awards evening at the Sports Centre recently and a fun night was enjoyed by all.

Vice-Chairman, Clive Jones, got the evening going with a heads or tails competition won by Brian Nixon, before Chairman, Stuart Mair, took over hosting duties. This began with the awards for the league winning U15 team managed by Phil Davies.

Phil has managed the team since they started out as U9s, and the group have delivered league and cup success year after year. This year, the team were sponsored by Now Storage, and awards were presented to Alistair Cook for batting, Ben Fletcher for Bowling, and Alexander Springer for all round contribution.

Next up was the 1st XI, with Captain, Graham ‘Lidzo’ Howls, providing all the detailed stats behind the awards made to Michael ’Sponge’ Jeffryes for batting, Chloe Tingle for bowling, and Adam Davies for all round contribution.

He handed over to Theo Minnie and the 2nd XI Captain took great delight in announcing that he had won the batting award himself. He could barely contain his disbelief at the fact that Richard Jeffryes had somehow manged to meet the criteria to win the bowling award, and finally gave great credit to Phil Davies for enlightening his colleagues with something known as ‘warm up routines’ to storm the all round contribution prize.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
