Wormelow 1st XI welcomed Kempsey 1st XI to Kennelfield hoping to bounce back from last week’s loss, skipper Tom Cutler lost the toss and his side were invited to field.

Kempsey batted well throughout their 50 overs with Wormelow struggling to make any inroads into their batting line up. An opening stand of 81 was well backed up by an unbroken 4th wicket partnership of 172 between S O’Neill (99no) and J Jones (78no) which saw Kempsey post an imposing 294-3 from their 50 overs. For Wormelow the only bowler to pick up a wicket was Jeewan Puri 1-31, the other two wickets coming courtesy of Ali Main run outs.

Seasoned opening batsman Jamie Langford got the home side reply off to a promising start before he was run out for 28 following a mix up with Elliott Williams (20). Ali Main, promoted up the order, chipped in with 22 but Wormelow were in big trouble when he departed with the score 101-7. Some late fireworks from Findlay Williams, who bludgeoned 40 from just 15 balls (1x4 5x6), boosted the total but Wormelow were eventually dismissed for 182 in the 39th over. It’s a big local derby for Wormelow next Saturday as they travel to table topping Bromyard CC.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
