Goodrich Cricket Club began their quest to regain their Marches Division 1 title with a thumping away win away against Brockhampton on Saturday, April 29th.

With his troops warming up on the outfield, Goodrich Captain, Sam Griffiths, won the toss and inserted the home side to bat. The decision looked vindicated after 24 overs as Goodrich opening bowlers, Mardy Bradford (12 overs 3 -26) and James O’Brien (12 overs 4 -32) had scythed through the Brockhampton top order leaving them 44-7. As Goodrich moved in for the kill the Brockhampton edges and lofted shots started finding gaps. Credit has to go to former Goodrich player, Mark Evans, and Chris Price (80) they rescued the innings to a commendable 185 - 9 at the close.

In reply Goodrich lost pinch hitter Bradford early to leave them 4-1 but, from there, the game belonged to the visitors.

Sam Griffiths dropped anchor at one end whilst Goodrich number 3, Jermain Jackson, opened up a fine array of strokes to all corners as the pair put on just shy of 100 for the second wicket. Rory was well caught and bowled by Rhys Price for 54 and Griffiths then spooned a catch to cover 42. It was left to Seymour (36*) and man-of-the-match O’Brien (32*) to power the villagers home with time and wickets to spare.

Special thanks go to match ball sponsor Phil Ward. Next Saturday, Goodrich host last year’s Marches Champions Luctonians CC in what promises to be a top class encounter. Feel free to pop up to The Avenue for a slice of Victoria sponge and show your support.
