The Spice Girls may be auditioning for people to fill the vacancies of Posh and Mel for their forthcoming film, but Ross CC had their own version of girl power on display for the U15s last Monday. Chloe Tingle, Isla Kendall and Lizzie Jeffryes led the way as the team won another tense encounter at the Park.

This team has bucket loads of character and it was all required to overcome a combined Colwall and Eastnor side. Ross won the toss and elected to bowl first. The visiting batsmen struggled to score consistently but were aided considerably by the generous addition of wides and other extras from the home bowlers.

However, wickets fell steadily through the innings. Tingle and Kendall both took two with a good spell of straight bowling. Charlie Cole also weighed in with a couple and the rest of the bowlers (Cameron Hill, Marcus Bailey, George Aubrey, Jayden Decloudt) took one apiece. Once again the fielding was excellent with some smart catches being held by Rob Nixon, Aubrey and Decloudt. Colwall managed just 46 runs off the bat but the extras added 27 to bring their total to 73 all out after 17 overs.

Jeffryes and Kendall opened the batting for Ross and kept the scoreboard ticking over with some good running between the wickets. The girls put on 32 in nine overs for the first wicket and provided a platform for the rest of the batsmen to build on. The target should have been an easy four an over, but the boys decided to make hard work of it. The Weather Girls famously sang “It’s raining men” - at one point it was raining wickets as Verney, Decloudt, Bailey, Aubrey and Tingle fell in quick succession to leave Ross teetering on the brink of defeat.

Cole and Tom Gwynne steadied the ship and showed great maturity in their batting, taking singles and twos rather than trying to knock the cover off the ball. The pressure turned away from the batsmen and onto the bowlers who started to leak wides. Gwynne scored the winning runs with five balls to spare. Cole (not out) and Jeffryes top scored with 15. The final total for Ross was 74 - 7

Next games for Ross are away at Wormelow on Monday 27th, followed by the U15 Herefordshire Cup Final on Thursday, June 30th. The match will be played at the Herefordshire Cricket Centre. All are welcome to go along to support the team.
