Amid tight security and emotional scenes on Saturday, December 8th, Goodrich Cricket Clubs’ Vice President, Mr Rufus Davies, finally ‘bowled his maiden over’, marrying Dr Evelyn Liddell. A friend said: “Ruf has had a very long innings but all at the Club are pleased that he has been finally caught.”

The wedding took place at the romantic Gretna Green on the Scottish border. Despite the dreich weather conditions the bride looked outstanding in an ensemble which not only reflected her Scottish heritage but the traditional something old, something borrowed and something blue. The groom, who displayed some nerves, struck a handsome figure in a tailored Gieves and Hawks three piece suit.

With the sounds of a lone piper floating over the married couple and witnesses, even the onlookers were observed to wipe away tears of joy for the newlyweds.

Mr Davies has been an international club Hockey player, a member of Goodrich Cricket Club for over three decades and has worked in the fields of Mixology, Night Club Management and Freelance Journalism.

Mr and Mrs Davies will now spend the winter honeymooning at the Liddell’s Scottish ancestral home followed by extended stays in France and Portugal before returning to their new home in the spring.
