Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club 1st XI, known as The Hedgehogs, hosted league leaders Canon Frome CC on Saturday, May 20th, but following the deluge of rain that had hit the area in the previous 24 hours, the team were faced with the huge task of getting the ground fit enough for the game to be played.

Everyone pulled together to support Chairman, and head groundsman, Stu Mair across the morning and early afternoon and, with the sun finally breaking through, a 28 over contest was able to start mid-afternoon.

Canon Frome won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to bowl first on what was expected to be a bowler’s paradise. However, Ross opener Masud Ahmed had other ideas and promptly dispatched the third ball of the innings for a massive six.

The exciting game continued until the Hedgehogs secured their first home victory of the season.

After a thrilling day, players, families and friends enjoyed a fantastic social curry and raffle night.

This weekend the season continues with both Ross sides in action against Colwall with the seconds playing at The Park. As always support would be very welcome.
