Ross cricketers lost narrowly away to the local favourites, Monmouth, in the ECB U15 Cup on Tuesday, May 22nd.

Having won the toss, home Captain, Joe Harris, led from the front contributing 53 runs before retiring, setting his side on the way to 136 runs from the alloted twenty overs.

Ross bowlers struggled at times to control the run rate, and a few lapses in the field, with three dropped catches, did not help Ross’ cause. Chloe Tingle was the pick of the Ross attack again, her accuracy to the fore, snaring Harris’ opening partner Sam Swingwood leg before, before clean bowling the next batsman, Frankie Souta.

Ross’ hopes were raised as captain Adam Davies and Ali Cook started with a positive reply before Cook was bowled, getting himself in a tangle. This brought Ethan Lerego to the crease and an excellent 84 run partnership with Davies featured powerful and skilful striking from the Ross number three.

Davies was caught on 42 as he tried to keep up the required rate, shortly before Ethan retired upon reaching his fifty, and unfortunately for Ross, the momentum of the innings died down, leaving them sixteen runs short of the Monmouth total.

Ross certainly pushed Monmouth harder than many expected before the game and look forward to returning to the Herefordshire League on June 11th with the first of a double header with Wormelow.
