Only 23 overs were possible in the Marches League fixture between Ross and Garnons at The Park last Saturday before the weather intervened and caused the game to be abandoned.
The visitors won the toss and asked Ross to bat first and enjoyed immediate success as Alistair Cook was bowled for a duck by Tom James in the first over of the innings. Mike Jeffryes was joined by Jim Lewis and, against accurate bowling backed up by excellent ground-fielding, they battled hard to take the score to 33 before Jeffryes was expertly caught at slip off the bowling of Garnons skipper Bolton for 20 in the 12th over.
Lewis and Ben Lander continued to bat sensibly and, with a mix of solid defence and some booming strikes from Lander, the pair added 41 in eight overs before Lewis lost patience against the tight off-spin bowled by his namesake and was bowled for 19.
There was just time for Charlie Cole to join Lander (24 not out) for a couple more overs before heavy rain arrived to force the players off with Ross 76-3 at the halfway point of the innings. With no sign of the rain letting up and standing water unable to penetrate the baked ground the decision to abandon the game was a straightforward one.
Ross took five points from the game and now look ahead to a key fixture away at Brockhampton this coming weekend.
