A month’s wait for a victory ended for the Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club’s seconds team. They achieved a win over fellow Marches Division 3 strugglers Moccas on Saturday, August 4th.
The Ross team were following England’s win at Edgbaston as they prepared for the game, and were concerned when they saw the Moccas team arriving with a few twenty-somethings in the side, and a captain who did not look unlike Ben Stokes.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first, facing the fifteen year old attack of Cameron Hill and Adam Davies. The two bowled accurately, restricting Moccas to two-an-over; Davies bowling his namesake, John, for a duck.
The run rate was controlled throughout the 45 overs, although opener Colin Prothero seemed destined to carry his bat before being caught out for 58 by Tom Edwards from the spin bowling of Wayne Husbands. Philip Davies bowled a miserly spell of ten overs for 17, taking a wicket with his last delivery.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
