In a repeat of the opening weekend of the season, Ross again came unstuck against one of the top Marches League sides after losing a vital toss on a rain affected wicket.
This week Garnons was the venue and a wet pitch meant a delayed start, a 34 over game, and with skipper, Jack Donovan, calling incorrectly at the toss it was no surprise at all that Garnons sent Ross into bat first.
Stu Mair departed early in the proceedings before Angus McIntyre and Ali Cook battled really well against the hosts opening attack. Faced with tight bowling and a wet outfield, scoring proved to be very difficult but the youngsters patiently added 40 before Cook fell trying to increase the scoring rate for 22.
McIntyre 19 and Charlie Cole 7 were dismissed shortly after to leave Ross at 60-4 before Graham Howls 32 (from 24 balls) and Alexander Springer 22 got Ross into the game with an excellent stand of 49. Some late hitting took the final Ross total to 125-8 but, with both the wicket and outfield drying out, it was clear that runs were proving easier to come by as the day wore on.
Garnons openers Stockdale and Debenham took the score to 32 against the opening bowling of Adam Parkes and Jack Donovan, before Parkes clean bowled the latter and followed up with another wicket with his next delivery thanks to a well-judged catch by Chloe Tingle.
Both bowlers created further chances that couldn’t be snaffled before Donovan induced an edge that was expertly caught at slip by Charlie Cole to make the score 56-3.
Unfortunately, that was to be the last success for the visitors as Theo Spreckley then smashed an unbeaten half century to take the hosts to a seven wicket victory. Adam Parkes finishing the most successful bowler with figures of 2-37.
Ross now look forward to returning to The Park this coming weekend when Brockhampton will be the visitors.
