A local teenager has been making his debut for the Wales Minor Counties men’s cricket team this week.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Friend, from Ross-on-Wye, played in Wales’ three-day Unicorns Championship Western Division fixture against Dorset at North Perrott.

The opening batsman is a pupil at Monmouth School for Boys and is part of the Glamorgan Academy.

Harry also plays for Wales Under 17s and top scored with 72 from 91 balls in Monmouth Cricket Club’s narrow one-wicket home defeat to Sudbrook last Saturday in Division One of the South East Wales League .

Meanwhile, Monmouth School for Boys is staging Glamorgan’s friendly against old rivals Worcestershire Seconds, starting on Tuesday ,August 27th at 11am.

The match will run until Thursday, August 29th and follows on from the school’s picturesque Sports Ground hosting Glamorgan Seconds’ one-day match against Essex in June.See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
