Ross U15s cricketers travelled to Colwall in the heat of Monday, June 19th to seek revenge for their cup exit at the same ground three weeks earlier.
Ross first team captain, Jack Donovan deputised for coach Clive Jones and encouraged the team to pull together for the win. Donovan and team captain George Aubrey elected to field upon winning the toss, and Chloe Tingle bowled Nick Horn in her first over, bringing Jasper Drake to the crease. Jasper took the attack to the Ross bowlers, making 43 runs before being skilfully run out by Ross keeper Alastair Cook with a direct throw. There then followed a steady stream of Colwall wickets, restricting the run rate so that the home side finished on 113. Ethan Lerego’s spin brought two wickets and George Aubrey clean bowled Colwall’s number six, before taking two catches from Tingle’s last over. Jack Donovan praised the teamwork in the field, vocally led by Mikey Nixon, and Ross looked forward to the opportunity to make the required runs.
Openers Ethan Lerego and Adam Davies started well making 38 from the first five overs before Davies was clean bowled. Alastair Cook and Lerego then put a partnership of 53 together to ensure the win was achieved with five overs left unused. Cook finished unbeaten on 35, Lerego having earlier holed out on 40.
This was a most satisfying win for Ross, as the second half of the season starts next Monday with a home game to Wormelow, the only team that have beaten Ross in the league so far.
