Ross 2nds travelled to Brierley Hill for their latest Worcestershire League match when they took on Oldswinford & Stourbridge Social.

Ross bowled first after winning the toss and Wayne Husbands was soon picking up his first wicket of the season thanks to a sharp catch from Charlie Cole. Debutant Chamkor (Laddi) Singh bowled an excellent first spell for the club, which also saw him pick up his first wicket, he was then denied a second by an awful umpiring decision not to give a caught behind decision that all the Ross team appealed for.

The Ross youngsters were excellent in the field and backed up the bowlers throughout the innings. Charlie Cole took three catches, Alexander Springer and Cameron Hill one each, and Charlie and Alexander were also responsible for a run out each. Not to be outdone, Adam Davies took two wickets in a six over spell and Oldswinford were indebted to Jon Stanier, batting at seven, who held the innings together with an excellent knock of 81 not out and turned a precarious position of 85-6 into a very respectable 183-9 at the end of their 45 overs.

As has been the case most weeks, batting proved difficult for Ross and they were quickly losing wickets at regular intervals before Isla Kendall, showing excellent defensive technique, and Alexander Springer steadied the ship with a battling rearguard stand after half the team had perished. Wayne Husbands and Cameron Hill then continued to show the same application in an entertaining last wicket stand which saw Husbands (24 not out) record his highest score for the club and Cameron smash his first boundary in league cricket. Ross were bowled out for 99 to lose by 84 runs, but can again take heart from an excellent display in the field.
