THE weekend washout cruelly denied Ross CC the chance of playing for promotion in Saturday's last round of fixtures, as the cancellations saw Hay hold on to the second spot by seven points in Worcestershire 8A to go up with division champions Dales.

Third was still an excellent showing from Ross, who won 10 of their 16 league games and lost five, with the only washed out game last weekend's, when Dales were supposed to be the visitors and promotion was on the line.

But they still have a shot at glory this Sunday (September 6), when they travel to Stowe Lane in Colwall to take on Bartestree & Lugwardine 3rds in the Herefordshire Trophy final, starting at 10am.

Aston Ingham CC saw all four senior teams' final league games cancelled last Saturday, with the 1sts having to settle for seventh in West of England Premier Gloucestershire after seven wins from their 18 matches.

The 2nds placed fourth in Gloucestershire 6A, with Huntley taking the title by 41 points from Arcadians Nine Elms, matched by fourth for Aston 3rds in G8A.

Huntley 2nds also landed the G9A crown, where Aston 4ths placed third.

Newent's three games were also called off, with the 1sts finishing seventh in G3 after six wins from 18 games, the Lions third in G9B and the 3rds seventh in G9A.

Goodrich were also washed out, with the 1sts suffering agonising GC5 relegation despite equalling their intended final day opponents Langford 2nds on points, who stayed up having scored six wins and a tie against the Wyesiders' six wins.

But the 2nds just avoided going down from G8A finishing eighth, 11 points and one place above the drop zone.

Aston Ingham will be travelling to Hatherley & Reddings this Saturday (September 5) for an end of season friendly match.
