Wormelow 1st XI welcomed Belbroughton to Kennelfield looking to build on the previous week’s superb victory over Himbleton. Stand in captain Matt Deem lost the toss and Belbroughton opted to bat first.
In-form seamer, Ali Main (0ne-26) struck early for the home side, before the visitors took some control with a second wicket stand of 58. A couple of quick wickets for Jeewan Puri and Karim Alee (1-19) saw the Belbroughton innings stall on 75-3.
When Findlay Williams removed top scorer R Price for 60 in the 35th over it appeared that the momentum had swung in favour of the home side. Opening bowler Elliott Williams (one-53) returned to pick up a late wicket and Puri (four-42) completed a fine 15 over spell as the visitors innings concluded on 195-8 from their 50 overs.
After last week’s successful run chase Wormelow were confident of knocking off the required runs at a rate of just under four runs per over. However things didn’t go to plan for the home side as wickets tumbled on a regular basis after Richard Stafford (19) and Ed Melly (15) had got the innings off to a solid start. Wormelow slumped from 38-1 to 62-8 in the space of 11 overs.
Elliott Williams (23no) and Main (22) put together a 38 run partnership for the ninth wicket to give a bit of respectability to the score before Wormelow were finally all out for 111 in the 39th over.
Wormelow will be looking to bounce back on Saturday when they host Kempsey CC.
