Eleven years after their father died while training for the Forest of Dean Half Marathon his daughters completed the 2018 event on Saturday, April 7th as a tribute.

Father of three, Jack Pegler (originally from Drybrook), died from a heart attack running from Ross-on-Wye to Weston under Penyard on November 22nd, 2007, whilst training for the Forest of Dean Half Marathon. He was just 53-years-old.

In 2008, his daughter, Lucy, and son, Philip, together with his nephews, Danny and Chris Niemczyk and Leon Meek, ran the Forest of Dean Half Marathon in Jack’s memory. On that occasion they were raising money for Aspire, a Hereford-based charity providing respite to people with learning disabilities, which Jack worked for.

Ten years on, Jack’s daughters, Amy and Lucy Pegler, ran the 2018 Forest of Dean Half Marathon to raise funding for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

CRY is a charity focused on preventing young sudden cardiac deaths.

Amy and Lucy completed the Forest of Dean Half Marathon in two hours and 26 minutes. This is just one of four half marathons Amy is running in 2018 (Forest of Dean Spring, Hereford, Swansea and the Forest of Dean Autumn) with the aim of raising £1,500 for CRY. Amy is a textile designer living in Hereford and an active member of a local running group, Hereford Running Crew. Lucy is a Sales Manager for a sports travel company, living in Weston under Penyard.

Together, the sisters are aiming to raise £1,500 for CRY (www.c-r-y.org.uk) and have currently raised £650 towards this target.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
