Whilst there was no tennis being played on the middle Sunday at Wimbledon, with Murray fans still wondering "will he do it again?", Ross Ladies A team were having a whale of a time fighting off tough opponents from Stourbridge B.
Ross' first pair, Sarah Drake and Brenda Saunders, had a great first set against the opposition's first couple, winning 6:2, but had to fight a tougher second set, coming through to win 7:5. Having won their first rubber, the wily pair won against the second pair fairly swiftly, 6:2, 6:3. Rosie Farr and Jane Pepperell had a tough match against the third couple, struggling to cope with the opposition's lobbing and lost the rubber 1:6, 5:7. Stourbridge's first couple then upped their game and Rosie and Jane had a tough match, which they lost 1:6, 2:6. Ginny Higgins, who was playing her debut match for the A team with Gaynor Raine, seemed unphased by the tough opponents, but they were just too strong for Ross's third pair. Ginny and Gaynor played a marathon first match but lost in the third set, 7:5,1:6,4:6. Having little energy left, they then lost their final match against Stourbridge's experienced third pair 1:6,1:6.
Although Ross ladies lost overall by two rubbers to 4, both teams enjoyed the tennis and after match banter, on a lovely sunny Summer afternoon in Ross.
