On Saturday, May 26th, Goodrich ’A’ttitudes played host to Halesowen Ladies.
First pair Rachael Wintle and Cath Hutchinson took the first set in their first rubber 6-3 against Halesowen first pair, and were disappointed not to capitalise on having the upper hand by loosing the next two sets 3-6/1-6.
However they soon bounced back by winning their second rubber in convincing style 6-2/6-0 against the Halesowen second pair.
Second pairing Jill Brown and Bonnie Palmer reversed their score line by winning the first rubber 7-5/6-0, but could not maintain the momentum in the second rubber and although they kept the pressure on the Halesowen first pair, taking the first set to a tie-break, but loosing out. The second set was also a close encounter but it was the opposition who again wrapped up the set to take it 7-5.
Playing together for the first time in a match, third pair, Steph Howell and Kirsten Ainsworth, had a very successful afternoon’s tennis, winning their first rubber 6-0/7-5, and dropping even fewer games in their second rubber, wrapping that one up 6-1/6-3.
This is the first time Goodrich ’A’ttitudes have had an outright win in Division 3 of the H&W Summer League, so there was good reason for much celebration.
’A’ttitudes next match is on Sunday, June 3rd, away to Old Hill. For more information please contact: [email protected] or visit the website by searching Goodrich Tennis Club.
