Ross-on-Wye swimmer Dan Leatherbarrow set himself an ambitious target when he entered eight events in one day. However he went on to win eight gold medals, and set six new British records at the Gloucester Masters 30th Anniversary Open Meet.

Dan told the Ross Gazette: “These were records in a short course pool for my age group, the 80-85 group.”

It was a very busy meet and Dan said he was very tired by the end but delighted with his success. He said he will keep trying to break records as he only missed two records by the same time, 0.48 seconds.

His results were as follows;

50m Fly – 45.42,

110m Breast – 1m 49.79,

100m Free – 1m 21.90

100m I M – 1m 36.95,

100m Fly – 1m 53.69

50m Free 34.98.

These were all new British records. He was first in the 200m Free – 3m 10.24 and 50m Breast 48.19.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
