FIVE runners from MonRoss Trailblazers joined a 179-strong field in Llandrindod Wells for the second Herefordshire and Borders X-Country League race.

Gavin Jones showed good speed around the Fforest Fields course a week last Wednesday to place seventh in 29 minutes 44 seconds.

Richard Bevan and Andrew Stephens finished in tandem in 39th and 40th in 34.37 and 34.48 respectively, for seventh and eighth in the over-45 men’s class.

Club mate Grant White was close behind in 36.01 for 51st overall.

And Lucia Demkova raced home fifth fastest over-40 woman in 42.35, in 112th.

The next race is on Wednesday, July 13, when runners travel to Westhope, with the final run on Wednesday, July 27, closer to home at Much Marcle.

Meanwhile, club member Rob Nicholls again showed the way home in the weekly Ross-on-Wye 5km parkrun on Saturday, finishing 13 seconds clear of Daniel Bazzard of Cheltenham-based CLC Striders in 18.09.

Gavin Jones and Grant White ran together, finishing sixth and seventh fastest respectively in 20.54 and 20.55.

Fastest woman in the 67-strong field was Chloe Elliott of Salford Metropolitan AC in 21.47, followed by Niki Raine in 24.45.

It was Worcester man John Drew’s 70th different parkrun as the over-50 runner finished in ninth in 21.25.

The free weekly parkrun is open to everybody and usually takes place at Ross Sports Ground on Saturdays at 9am.

New runners simply have to register with parkrun beforehand.
