Ross Juniors Men travelled to Sling on Saturday and came away with a hard-fought 2 - 0 win. With Sling third in the table, Ross knew it would not be easy to get another three points.

Both teams started well in a very even contest but after 15 minutes Ross broke the deadlock with a Brad Wooding goal.

Ross had a throw-in, deep in the Sling half, where the ball finally ended at Paul Wooding’s feet. He took a long range shot for Brad to get the flick on, in the box which gave the keeper no chance of saving it, to make the score 1 - 0.

The game continued with both sides creating chances, but with Wayne Husbands, Paul Wooding, Chris Woodward and Shaun Aston keeping a tight ship at the back, there was very little for keeper Aaron Thorley to do.

When the second half began, Ross kicked off eager to kill the game. The midfielders, Dave Nicholls, Callum McCulloch and Sammy Taylor, were all working hard trying to make chances.

Eventually striker Brad Wooding was able to take the ball from a Sling defender, but he put the ball just wide of the post.

With 70 minutes gone, Ross could see the Sling players were starting to tire. Ross found themselves on a break after a cleared Sling corner, Jack Bray had the ball down the wing, he whipped it in to Brad in the box to put it away but the referee ruled it out for a controversial off side.

Sling kept pressing but, with ten minutes to go, Ross had a corner. It was cleared but only as far as Taylor who passed to Husbands out on the left wing, who put in a low cross to Nicholls who took a touch and slotted home past the keeper, to make it 2 - 0.

Physio and Health Matters Man of the Match went to Chris Woodward for his solid display at the back. Ross are away to Littledean on Saturday.
