Ross Juniors U10s hadn’t played on grass for over two months, due to all the wet weather so it wasn’t surprising that they weren’t quite on their game, but they managed to secure the win. Their dominance deserved in this rearranged league match.
On a tight, sloping pitch the visitors dominated the early chances with Eddie shooting wide after Jake’s pass and Bill doing the same when he tried his luck from distance. Ross had a great chance to score when Eddie went on a fantastic run, but the ball didn’t quite run for him.
Bartestree only really threatened on the occasional counter-attack which David and JT dealt with. Although a long range effort from a Bartestree player bounced up right in front of Roo in the Ross goal, he did well to turn the ball over the bar for a corner. Unfortunately Bartestree scored from the resulting corner.
Although the boys looked disappointed to concede against the run of play they continued to create the better chances.
Theo was causing his opponents all sorts of problems with some great tackles and probing runs from midfield.
Ross started the second half well with Eddie setting up a good chance for Luca and then David seeing his goal-bound effort deflected wide. From the resulting corner JT hit the crossbar. Luca fashioned a great shot when he was surrounded by two opponents which was well saved. Bill hit a thunderbolt from the edge of the area which the keeper did well to save.
Fortunately for Ross, the ball fell nicely for Eddie and he poked it through the smallest of gaps as he was closed down by the keeper and a defender. All of a sudden Ross platers were finding spaces behind the Bartestree defence and when Jake’s pass sent Eddie through on goal it looked like they would take the lead, but the home keeper made a great save. Ross scored the eventual winner when Bill’s clearance found Eddie unmarked on the left.
Eddie ran at the last defender before laying the ball into Jake’s path. He gave their keeper no chance with his close range shot into the roof of the net. Bartestree threatened a little more towards the end of the game as they looked for an equaliser, but Josh and Bill dealt with everything thrown at them. Towards the end of the match Eddie played a one-two with Owen to create a chance to put the game to bed but his shot went narrowly wide.
The Masons Fencing & Firewood Man of the Match goes to Eddie Price for his great teamwork, a well taken equaliser and for setting up the winning goal.
